The “Champions League” nights are back as the Round of 16 goes underway with a heavy-weight clash between EPL giants, Manchester United, and Spanish contenders, Atletico Madrid. These Rounds of 16 matches will be decided by a two-legged format.
The first leg will be played at the Wanda Metropolitano, home of Atletico and the second leg will be played in the Theatre of Dreams which is Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. It will be a fierce battle between both these sides.
Both teams are getting their squads ready for the first leg which is on February 24. Based on their league standings, both Atletico Madrid and Manchester United stand fifth in their respective leagues and are fighting for next season’s champions league spot.
Another battle will be between the two great coaches, United’s Ralf Ragnik and Atletico’s Diego Simeone. Both these managers are tactically smart and will try to outdo their competition by using their managerial experience.
What does it mean for both teams to win?
Winning is key for every team and the occasion being the “Champions League”, makes winning even more special. Atletico Madrid has never tasted the “UCL Glory” in their history thus qualifying for the further rounds is key.
Manchester United, on the other hand, has won the trophy three times but their last win came in 2008, 14 years back. To restore themselves as a top team in Europe, winning the UCL is necessary.
Both teams will give it their all as UCL glory is what every team desires.
Current Form
It is safe to say that both teams are far from their best and have been struggling a lot this season. Standing fifth in the league and fighting for the UCL spot for next season is a downgrade for these heavyweights.
Being be the league champions last season, Atletico has fallen down. Having been eliminated from the Copa Del Rey and Spanish Super Copa, Atletico’s chances of getting silverware this season are looking bleak. Managing only two tough wins in their last five matches, Simeone has to work a lot.

Manchester United’s form has been just terrible this season. Signing megastars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and so on has gone all in vain. After sacking their ex-manager and club legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, United’s fortunes have been the same.
With the defense struggling and the attack unable to score goals, Ralf Ragnick is under a lot of trouble.
