Stunning game of football as Liverpool outshine Inter Milan in a thrilling 2-0 victory. Inter were humiliated at their own home ground, San Siro. Klopp’s man should resilience even after registering zero shots on target until 70 mins.
It was a rather cold night at the San Siro but being the UEFA Champions League both players and fans were charged up making it a festival of football. Internazionale played in their traditional dark blue jersey and Liverpool presented themselves in their home kit.
Both squads were filled with stars of football including Mohmmad Salah, Sadio Mane, Edin Dzeko, Nicolo Barella and so on. It was a classic battle of tactics amongst the two most experienced managers, Fillipo Inzaghi and Jurgen Klopp.
Inzaghi chose to start with a 3-5-2 formation with a strong midfield. This has been the formation for most of their season. Klopp however chose to start with a classic, 4-4-3 formation with a star trio at the front, Mane, Jota and Salah.
Looking at the formation and squad setup by both teams, the match was expected to be a cracker.
First Half: A Stale Game Of Football
The match began as both teams tried to gain their footing on the ground. Being a cold night, players were finding it difficult to warm themselves up. The starting minutes were more about getting “hold” of the ball.
At the 14th minute mark, Inter came extremely close of scoring as Hakan struck the bar with his right-foot whip. At the 23rd minute, Mane latched on to a whipped in cross by Robertson. This was however missed and went into the side-netting.
Apart from these chances, the first was pretty much “stagnant”.
Second Half: The Breakthrough
Both teams looked slightly energetic as Liverpool bought on their star striker, Roberto Firmino. At the 60th minute, Inter RB, Dumfries released a vicious pass to Edin Dzeko, who smoothly turned the ball inside the goal. The was however disallowed as Dzeko was offside.
Finally, at the 75th minute point, came the breakthrough. Roberto Firmino tucked in a super-cross by Robertson. It was a fine header which earned Liverpool a precious one goal lead
The match was however finished at the 83rd minute as Pool’s star player, Salah strikes home a loose ball from an another cross but this time it was Alexander Arnold.
The match ended with a 2-0 away win for Liverpool. Coming back from this deficit will be extremely tough for the Italian Champions who’ll meet Liverpool in the second leg of this exciting fixture at Anfield.
