The action of FIFA Club World Cup is soon to arrive as the European champions, Chelsea is all set to grab another title in their name. Chelsea will travel to the United Arab Emirates after their 4th round tie against Plymouth Argyle. This will be Chelsea’s 2nd ever FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
Chelsea squad enjoyed a whole week off as International Football was in action and players were off for National Duties. Chelsea’s biggest loss is their star keep Eduard Mendy, who is playing in the AFCON final for Senegal. Mendy is however expected to return for the Club World Cup fixture.
Players along with their Manager, Thomas Tuchel are extremely excited for their Semi-Final fixture in the club world. Their opponent is yet to be decided as the last round of qualification is still going on. Chelsea could face either Al-Hilal or Al Jazira as these 2 sides face each other in the last round of qualification on February 6.
Tuchel’s exciting words
After winning the FIFA Best Manager of the year, Thomas Tuchel has been taking his side to a good position. With 3rd place in the table and a comfortable place in the EFL final, Tuchel is really enjoying his time at Chelsea.
In an interview conducted regarding the team’s readiness for the club world cup, Tuchel said “I have to say once you are in it you are pretty excited. Once you are not in it, it is a competition that has not the highest focus on and highest value. It seems like this in Europe, or only for me.”
He also added, “It is a big opportunity to win an extraordinary trophy which is far from daily business and that is why we will do anything to take the chance to make it happen.”
Tuchel and his side are really excited to grab their third trophy and being the one which they have never won, makes it even more special.
Previous “Disappointment”
Chelsea in their previous appearance as European Champions was in the year 2012. They were defeated in a “bizarre” game against Corinthians who won the match 1-0. The winning header was scored in the 69th minute by Corinthians player, Paolo Guerrero.
Being the European Champions, Chelsea was expected to assert dominance over the Brazilian side, but to everybody’s shock, Corinthians dominated them in all departments.
This was an “utter disappointment” for Chelsea as they return back in this year’s edition for “Redemption”.
