Barcelona are set to make a move for the Chelsea captain in the summer. The Blaugrana want to bolster their defense by signing the Spanish international.
Barcelona want to sign Azpilicueta on a free transfer as this is their new transfer policy. They got Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, and Sergio Aguero in similar fashion in the summer transfer window.
Cesar Azpilicueta will be able to settle into the Barcelona team easily as they have many Spanish players and the Chelsea captain has played with them in the national team.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Barcelona have had talks with the player and they want to give him a contract till 2024.

Azpilicueta can run down his contract with Chelsea and he can depart at the end of the season as the Blues have not started the contract negotiation.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s legacy at Chelsea
Commonly called as ‘Dave’ by several Chelsea fans, Azpilicueta is a modern stalwart for the Blues.
He joined Chelsea football club from Marseille nine years ago and has become one of the best defenders for the Blues. He has also captained them in the recent years and he wears his heart on the sleeve.
Azpilicueta has been a consistent performer for Chelsea under several managers. He gives his 100 percent for the team and has played in various positions to help the team.
Many managers have come to Chelsea with different ideas and different formations. But Azpilicueta has been a regular starter in all of those lineups. His will to play for the team is what every manager looks from a player.
Despite his considerably short stature, Azpilicueta is one of the best defenders for Chelsea. His versatility makes him an obvious choice to pick as he can play at left-back, center back, right back, and right wing-back.
The Spaniard has played 456 matches for Chelsea and has scored 14 goals and given 56 assists. But, Chelsea are now reluctant to renew his contract so he is looking to leave the club in a free transfer.
The 32 year old has won pretty much everything with Chelsea. The Spaniard has won a UEFA Champions League, two Premier League titles, one UEFA Super Cup, one FA Cup, two Europa Leagues and a League cup.
Moreover, he can win the Club World Cup in February before leaving the Blues.
Why do Barcelona need Azpilicueta?
The Blaugrana’s interest in Azpilicueta is obvious because of the form of Sergino Dest. The USMNT player has an uncertain future at Camp Nou.
Xavi does not like Dest as he has failed to become a regular starter for Barcelona aand is only seen as a rotation option.
Moreover, Dest is deployed as a winger as well because of his inability to defend properly. While Dani Alves, who is 38 years old, is playing at the right back position in big games.
So they need a right back in future and someone who can defend well in the right channel. Cesar Azpilicueta fits that role. Also, his leadership qualities and experience will help the youngsters in team.
