Chile face their rival South American side Argentina in CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers on Friday at the Municipal de Calama.
Current Form and Position
Martin Lasarte’s Chile, stand 6th in the standings with 16 points, having played 14, they have won four, drawn four and lost six. In their previous qualifying match, they were responsible for a 2-0 loss at home against Ecuador.

The Chilean and Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal has picked up a red card, and is, therefore, suspended for the clash.
After a disappointing start to their qualification campaign, winning only one of their first 10 matches, Chile have revenged back, gaining maximum points from their next three fixtures, with their victory against Venezuela in between home and away wins against Paraguay.
However, their final four fixtures include Friday’s opponents Argentina, as well as group leaders Brazil and Uruguay, so they will need to be on top of their game if they are to have any chance of finishing in the top four.
Argentina, managed by Lionel Scaloni, are 2nd in the table with 29 points. Thirteen games played, they have won eight and drawn five, so remain unbeaten. Last time out in the qualifiers, they faced a strong 0-0 away against Brazil. Scaloni’s side are looking to extend their unbeaten run to 27 games in all competitions.
They have, however, conceded in their last two meetings against Chile which both finished as 1-1 draws  and their most recent clash in the Copa America group stage was the only game Scaloni’s men failed to win on their way to lifting the title.
Argentina will be with a disadvantage as they will play without their ace forward Lionel Messi as after the Argentine FA came to an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the forward to remain in France, as he has only just recovered from a bout of coronavirus.
The game will be one of first big games of 2022, as both the teams are massive opponents.
Head To Head
Both last faced each other in June 2021, in a 1-1 draw in Argentina.
