Anthony Martial Joins Spanish Side Sevilla On Loan

Manchester United have agreed to loan Anthony Martial to Sevilla for the remainder of the season, with the La Liga side waging a fee of about €6.5m.

Martial is on course to fly to Spain to complete the transfer after pushing for a move in search of more game time. Reports suggest that he was unhappy with the amount of game time he received under Ragnick.

He played his last game when he came in as a substitute in Saturday’s victory against London side West Ham for his very first appearance since early December.

The French forward had interest from a number of other clubs, including Newcastle and Tottenham, but his preference swung towards Sevilla.

They rank 2nd second in La Liga, four points behind Real Madrid. There is no clause for them to buy Martial on a permanent transfer, who has a contract with United to 2024.

Rift Between Ralf and Martial?

Martial’s willingness to leave Manchester United was encouraged by his personal agent, Philippe Lamboley.

The interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, said this month that the United striker “didn’t want to be” in the squad to face Aston Villa. Martial had earlier confidently replied to this by saying he could never refuse to not play for Manchester United.

However, United boss Ralf Ragnick was stubborn that the 26-year-old, whose contract runs until the summer of 2024, would only be allowed to leave United if Spanish side agreed pay 100 percent of his wages, which they did.

What next for United?

Manchester United has less than seven days left to do any business in this January transfer window. While most of the players under him are willing to leave the club, there’s very few who would look to join United this transfer window.

The newly owned cash-rich Newcastle are said to be observing Jesse Lingard over a similar agreement to Martial. They say the English club is currently awaiting a reply from Manchester United after they submitted a new, improved offer which includes a loan and permanent transfer later for the English playmaker.

Their wingback and semi-flop star Alex Telles is also being linked with a move away from Old Trafford ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. With the entry of Diogo Dalot, Telles has very less role and game time in the United line-up. They are willing to sell him for a transfer value as low as £13m.

Boubacar Kamara is being linked with a move to United but it doesn’t seem like there is anything serious to report at the moment. It seems that it will be a quiet window for the Red Devils, as they have already brought in immense amount of talent at the beginning of the season, but have failed to conquer over the other teams as one might expect them to.
