Frank Lampard has claimed Manchester City’s player of the month award for September after piping compatriots David Silva and James Milner to receive the honor.
Lampard, who made his debut on September 13th, won almost a third of the more than 6,000 votes as fans adjudged that the performance of the 36-year-old was the best for the month of September.
The result was released via the club’s official website and a formal presentation will be done in a couple of days. Lampard has become an instant hit with the City fans after finding the back of the net against his former club Chelsea, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City. “To bag the award in his first full month for the club is testament to one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders longevity and he will no doubt be a crucial member of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this season,” City’s official website stated.
Lampard left Chelsea in the summer after 13 meritorious years with the club in which he received three player of the year awards along with becoming the club’s top goalscorer with 211 goals. Lampard seems motivated to maintain his legendary status in the Premier League with his fine start for City.
Though a contract extension has been mooted, it is not expected that Lampard will stay beyond January before he departs for the MLS to play for New York City FC, the club he originally signed for after ending his spell with Chelsea.
