According to The Daily Mirror’s Darren Lewis, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fancies the talented William Carvalho, who has a £35m buyout clause in his contract. The Gunners have been told they will have to pay at least £24million up front for the 22-year-old Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
Wenger insisted that he still wants to add some players to his squad after signing FC Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez and French defender Mathieu Debuchy.
The Frenchman said: “I’m very happy on what I could do till now. I can’t give you any names because you’re never sure what you can do but we are still out there to strengthen our squad,” as per Squawka.
The Portugal World Cup midfielder is able to be the driving force of Arsenal’s midfield, operating in the center of the park. This is highlighted by the 16 tackles he attempted during the group stages of the World Cup this summer.
Carvalho is able to regain possession, while he is also solid when he is in possession. Arsene Wenger is looking for that kind of a playmaker - somebody who is energetic and showing the determination to succeed.
The Gunners will have to pay a high fee to secure the services of the talented Portuguese, but a midfielder like Carvalho, who is able to become a very special best box-to-box midfielder, will be worth it.
