Liverpool have joined the race to sign Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann. The Reds are said to be offering £20m for his services, with Griezmann set on a move away from Spain.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all said to be interested.
Other clubs in Europe such as PSG as well as Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping tabs on the Frenchman. However, Griezmann has indicated he wants to leave Spain for pastures new, with the Premier League and Liverpool becoming a serious option.
After rejecting the offer of a new two-year extension to his current contract at the Anoeta stadium, speculation surrounding Griezmann’s future has not affected his form for France at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
French manager Didier Deschamps selected Griezmann ahead of Manchester City’s in-form Samir Nasri in his final squad. Griezmann has impressed many neutrals with his pace and ability in wide positions, linking up well with Karim Benzema.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been a busy man already this summer, recruiting new members to his team. England internationals Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana both signed on the dotted line from Southampton after impressive seasons last term, and Emre Can also completing his move to Anfield from German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Despite the Liverpool manager’s transfer dealings so far, a player in the wide position to compete with starlet Raheem Sterling has been amongst his top targets since early January after a failed bid to sign Ukraine’s Yevhen Konoplyanka.
With the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Liverpool will not be short of money as they look to re-invest into more youngsters, with Griezmann dubbed as an exciting young talent. The winger, who has been with his current side since 2005, has made 179 appearances, scoring 49 times.
