Holger Badstuber ~ Bayern Munich to VfB Stuttgart ~ Free Transfer
Once upon a time, Holger Felix Badstuber was the most talented young defender in Germany. But like many before him, injuries ravaged a career that was on course to hit the highest of heights.
After finishing his education in the Bayern system and establishing himself as a first-choice center back in Bavaria, a string of injuries suffered from 2010-11 till 2016-17 consigned Badstuber to an unceremonious loan-spell at Schalke, and now a free transfer to a returning Stuttgart team looking to re-establish themselves on the German football map. What Badstuber can bring them, if he remains fit, is exactly what they need.
Despite his horrific injury record, Badstuber comes with quite a bit of Bundesliga experience, as well as featuring for both the German national team and in the Champions League on numerous occasions. His experience garnered in Bavaria will be seen as invaluable by manager Hannes Wolf. Considering the two other main center backs at the club are 21-year-olds Timo Baumgartl and Benjamin Pavard, Badstuber’s leadership as an experienced head can offer a great deal in the heart of the defense as Stuttgart look to avoid the drop in their return to the top flight.
