Jean-Kévin Augustin ~ Paris Saint-Germain to RasenBallsport Leipzig ~ £11.8m
After performing above and beyond the call of duty and securing Champions League football in their first ever Bundesliga season, RB Leipzig are a club whose journey to establish themselves on the German landscape continues. Under the tutelage of sporting director Ralf Rangnick and manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, the youth movement in Leipzig is showing no signs of stopping.
Key young assets Timo Werner, Naby Keita, Yussuf Poulsen, Marcel Sabitzer, and Dayot Upamecano all remain at the club, despite serious questions surrounding the futures of Werner and Keita arising over the last two months. To add to their young core, Leipzig turned to French youth international starlet Jean-Kévin Augustin. The center-forward/winger, who has been nothing short of prolific in the French youth set-up, was never going to get his chance at an ambitious spending club like PSG.
With RBL now in Europe and in need of additional depth if they’re to play in two major competitions, a player of Augustin’s profile fits the bill. An excellent finisher, with pace to match players who are already at the club as well as flexibility in areas of deployment, Augustin offers a great deal for someone his age. And with the future of Werner to be a likely issue every single summer, RBL could already have landed his replacement should the 21-year-old forward find himself elsewhere in the future.
